Privacy & your data

The short version

Bennett Studio apps — MarginPrint, MarketDay, BenchStock, and MakerBooks — run entirely on your device. Your data (jobs, customers, prices, costs, sales) never leaves it and is never sent to us. Your business data never touches a server of ours — we can't see your numbers, and there's no central pile of customer data for anyone to breach. (The only thing we ever store is the email you give us when you get in touch — see below.)

What we collect

From the apps themselves: nothing. Every Bennett Studio app — MarginPrint, MarketDay, BenchStock, and MakerBooks — is a local-first app. Everything you enter is stored in your own browser (via IndexedDB, with localStorage as a fallback) on the device you're using. It is not transmitted to Bennett Studio, and there is no account to create and no login.

Where your data lives

On your device, under your control. Because it's local:

The apps work offline — useful next to a printer with bad Wi-Fi, or at a market stall with no signal.
You can export a full JSON backup at any time from Settings, and import it on another device.
Clearing your browser's site data, or uninstalling the app, deletes your data. Keep a backup first.
Your data is tied to the device and browser you use it in. We don't sync it for you, so we never hold a copy.

Payments

Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record. That means your card details go to Lemon Squeezy — never to us — and they handle payment processing, receipts, and sales tax/VAT. We receive only what we need to recognize your license (such as a license key and the email you bought with). Lemon Squeezy's handling of your payment information is covered by their privacy policy.

The optional AI feature (MarginPrint)

MarginPrint's pricing analysis uses Anthropic's Claude and is included with a paid subscription — there is no API key for you to create or enter. It runs only when you tap the button. If you never use it, nothing is ever sent anywhere.

When you do run an analysis, the request goes from your browser to a small MarginPrint server, which adds our Anthropic credentials and forwards it to Anthropic. To be exact about what that server receives and does:

What is sent: the numbers from that one calculation — filament type and grams, cost per kg, print hours, printer and labour rates, platform, batch size, your price, and the resulting margin — plus your license key, so we can check the subscription and count the request against your daily limit. The server builds what it sends from a fixed list of numeric fields, so anything else is discarded before it reaches Anthropic — no text you typed is passed through.
What is not sent: customer names and contact details, job notes, photos, your queue, your sales history, or anything else stored in the app. Those never leave your device.
What is kept: nothing. The server stores no copy of your figures and no analysis. It keeps only a running count of how many analyses your license has used, so the daily and monthly limits can be enforced.

Anthropic's handling of the forwarded figures is covered by Anthropic's privacy policy. MarketDay, BenchStock, and MakerBooks have no AI feature and send nothing to any AI service.

This website

The marketing site you're reading may use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to count visits (no personal profiles, no cross-site tracking, no advertising cookies). It loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives the standard request information (including your IP address) when a font loads. If you email us, we'll have whatever you put in that email.

If you give us your email

Two places ask for your email: getting in touch, and asking to hear when an app that is still in development is ready. Both store the address — along with basic request metadata your browser sends (approximate country, user agent, and referring page) — in a Cloudflare key-value store, and we may also receive an instant notification. If you asked about a specific app, we record which one, so we know which to finish first.

We use it only to reply to you, or to tell you once that the app you asked about has launched. No newsletter, no marketing sequence, nothing sold or shared. Ask us to delete it at any time at [email protected] and we will.

What we never do

Sell or share your data — we don't have it to sell.
Run third-party advertising or tracking pixels in the app.
Require an account or hold your business data on our servers.

Your control

Because your data lives on your device, you control it directly: export it, move it, or delete it whenever you want, without asking us. If you have a question about any of this, or want help, get in touch.

Changes to this policy

If a Bennett Studio app ever adds a feature that changes how data is handled — for example optional cloud sync — we'll update this page and note the date above before that feature ships. The local-first default isn't going away; anything that leaves your device will be opt-in.
